io.w6w.googlechatGoogle Chat brings a Workspace organization’s team messaging into a workflow — posting and managing messages, spaces, memberships and reactions as the signed-in user. Actions cover creating and updating spaces (including setting one up as a direct message), posting, updating, deleting and searching messages within a space, and managing who belongs to a space, down to reacting to a specific message.
Threading is handled the way Google Chat expects: replying into an existing thread or starting a new one, with control over whether a missing thread should fail or silently start fresh. Retried create operations converge on the same resource rather than creating duplicates, so a workflow step that gets retried after a network hiccup does not double-post.
This app acts strictly as a human user — the messages and spaces it touches are ones the connected account already has access to, and it deliberately never uses the separate app/bot authentication mode Google Chat also supports, keeping every action attributable to a real person’s account.
Three routes to the same 18 actions. The Workflow tab is generated from Google Chat's own manifest and carries its real ids, so it is copy-pasteable; the Code and CLI examples are the same call for any action on any app, so every app-specific value in them is a blank you fill in.
create-member Add a user or a Google Group to a space. Adding a Chat app requires app (bot) authentication and is not available with a user connection.
create-message Post a text message to a space, optionally in a thread or visible only to one user. Cards and attachments require app (bot) authentication and are not available with a user connection.
create-reaction React to a message with a standard or custom emoji. Requires a user connection — Chat apps cannot manage reactions.
create-space Create a named space. The authenticated user becomes its manager. Use Set Up Space to create a group chat or DM, or to add members at creation time.
delete-message Delete a message. With a user connection the user can only delete their own messages, unless they manage the space.
delete-reaction Remove one of the authenticated user's own reactions from a message. Requires a user connection — Chat apps cannot manage reactions.
find-direct-message Find the existing direct-message space between the authenticated user and another user. Returns 404 if they have never exchanged a DM — use Set Up Space with type DIRECT_MESSAGE to create one.
list-members List the memberships of a space. Returns one page; pass `pageToken` for the next.
list-messages List messages in a space, oldest first by default. Returns one page; pass `pageToken` for the next.
list-reactions List the reactions on a message, and who left them. Returns one page; pass `pageToken` for the next.
list-spaces List the spaces the authenticated user is a member of. Returns one page; pass `pageToken` for the next.
search-messages Search messages across every space the authenticated user can see, or within one space. Requires a user connection — this endpoint has no app-authentication equivalent.
setup-space Create a space, group chat or direct message and add members in a single call. The authenticated user is added automatically.
update-message Replace the text of an existing message. Only `text` is writable with a user connection — editing cards requires app (bot) authentication.
update-space Rename a space or change its description, guidelines or history setting. `updateMask` selects which fields are written.
A workflow step names the app and the action, and the editor fills in the
connection when you pick one. This is the Step shape from the
workflow spec, carrying Google Chat's real ids.

Every app-specific value here is a blank you have to fill in. An
app action is reached through the connection that authenticates it, so the
address is a connection id, not the app id — and connections belong to your account,
so a public page cannot know yours. Create one for Google Chat, then fill in
the three blanks: conn_YOUR_CONNECTION_ID, the action key, and the
parameters that action declares. The call itself is real — the shape is transcribed
from the studio's own snippet builder, which prints the same kind of blanks — but
nothing in it is specific to Google Chat. The Workflow tab is where this app's
real ids are.

Every tool names its target with a single ref. The
app: form above doesn't name a connection at all — the
host resolves which of the caller's Google Chat connections to sign
with, and refuses rather than guesses when the answer is ambiguous.
The token is attached host-side, at the moment of the call. It is never a tool argument, never in the model's context, and never in a transcript — so a prompt injection has nothing to exfiltrate.
Tools are derived per end user from what that person has actually connected and is entitled to — not one shared bot identity carrying the union of everyone's access.
Multi-step work runs on the workflow engine and returns a run handle the agent can poll — retries, branching and state survive the conversation that started them.
Google Chat's declared health checks are on the surface too, so an agent can tell "the vendor is down" from "your credential expired" before it burns a retry on either.
The MCP surface is part of the hosted platform. Google Chat itself is MIT, and the runtime that executes it is source-available (FSL).
Google Chat declares its own checks, so its health is a property of the app rather than something the host guesses at.
