GitHub ships in the w6w first-party pack. It declares 25 actions, 2 health checks, and the host runs its code in a sandbox that never sees the credential.
io.w6w.githubGitHub gives a workflow a broad surface across the pieces engineering teams actually script around — reading and writing repository files, creating, commenting on, locking and updating issues, and reviewing and merging pull requests without a human opening a browser.
Releases are fully manageable (created, updated, listed and deleted), and GitHub Actions workflows can be listed, enabled and dispatched, so a process outside GitHub can kick off a CI run or ship a release as one of its own steps. Repository- and organization-level reads — a repository’s issues, its license, a user’s or an organization’s repositories — cover the discovery a workflow needs before acting on a specific one.
A natural fit for release automation, issue triage pulled in from another system, PR review gating, or triggering CI/CD from an event GitHub itself doesn’t know about.
Three routes to the same 25 actions. The Workflow tab is generated from GitHub's own manifest and carries its real ids, so it is copy-pasteable; the Code and CLI examples are the same call for any action on any app, so every app-specific value in them is a blank you fill in.
file-create-or-update Commit a file. Omit the SHA to create; pass the current blob SHA (from Get File) to update.
issue-update Edit an issue — retitle it, rewrite the body, close or reopen it, set labels.
organization-get-repositories List an organisation's repositories. Private ones appear only if the connection can see them.
pull-request-create-review Submit a review — approve, request changes, or leave a comment-only review.
pull-request-merge Merge a pull request using the merge, squash or rebase strategy.
release-create Publish a release for a tag, optionally letting GitHub generate the notes.
release-update Edit a release — commonly to publish a draft by setting Draft to false.
repository-get-issues List a repository's issues. GitHub includes pull requests here — they carry a `pull_request` field.
repository-get-license Fetch the licence GitHub detected for a repository, with the licence file itself.
workflow-dispatch Trigger a workflow_dispatch run. GitHub queues it asynchronously and returns no run id.
A workflow step names the app and the action, and the editor fills in the
connection when you pick one. This is the Step shape from the
workflow spec, carrying GitHub's real ids.

Every app-specific value here is a blank you have to fill in. An
app action is reached through the connection that authenticates it, so the
address is a connection id, not the app id — and connections belong to your account,
so a public page cannot know yours. Create one for GitHub, then fill in
the three blanks: conn_YOUR_CONNECTION_ID, the action key, and the
parameters that action declares. The call itself is real — the shape is transcribed
from the studio's own snippet builder, which prints the same kind of blanks — but
nothing in it is specific to GitHub. The Workflow tab is where this app's
real ids are.

Every tool names its target with a single ref. The
app: form above doesn't name a connection at all — the
host resolves which of the caller's GitHub connections to sign
with, and refuses rather than guesses when the answer is ambiguous.
The token is attached host-side, at the moment of the call. It is never a tool argument, never in the model's context, and never in a transcript — so a prompt injection has nothing to exfiltrate.
Tools are derived per end user from what that person has actually connected and is entitled to — not one shared bot identity carrying the union of everyone's access.
Multi-step work runs on the workflow engine and returns a run handle the agent can poll — retries, branching and state survive the conversation that started them.
GitHub's declared health checks are on the surface too, so an agent can tell "the vendor is down" from "your credential expired" before it burns a retry on either.
The MCP surface is part of the hosted platform. GitHub itself is MIT, and the runtime that executes it is source-available (FSL).
GitHub declares its own checks, so its health is a property of the app rather than something the host guesses at.

Every rate-limit bucket GitHub meters — core, search, graphql and the rest — from a single `GET /rate_limit`, which does not itself count against the limit.
